This lecture series explores lesser-known Ayurvedic and traditional insights around birth, midwifery, preparation for pregnancy and birth, nutrition, common conditions, child development, as well as topics such as autism. A large part of this knowledge is not part of modern education, yet it plays a profound role in the health and wellbeing of women. As modern systems continue to develop, much of this valuable knowledge is increasingly being lost.

An important aim of this lecture series is to preserve this endangered knowledge and pass it on to people who are interested in obstetrics, supporting pregnancy and birth, parenthood, or generally in a more conscious and holistic experience of pregnancy and birth.

In the first lecture, we will dive deeply into the foundations of Ayurveda. One essential principle is understanding the relationship between human beings and their physical as well as energetic environment. We are, in essence, products of nature. It is helpful to understand how nature works within us — how it regulates and guides processes in the body that go far beyond our conscious actions.

These forces and elements are constantly in motion and change. They are influenced by the seasons, dietary habits, sleep patterns, activity levels, and our daily rhythm of life. All these factors continuously affect our inner balance.

There are also significant differences between men and women. Especially in women during pregnancy, birth, and the first six months postpartum, the body is in a highly sensitive and dynamic state. Physical, hormonal, and emotional processes are particularly susceptible to change during this time. Many of these subtle natural and bodily changes often go unnoticed, although they can have profound effects on physical and mental health.

When these subtle influences of natural forces are understood, a deeper understanding, better preparation, and more conscious support during pregnancy and birth become possible. This knowledge is essential not only for midwives, but also for parents, in order to experience pregnancy and birth with greater awareness and trust.
